Theme: Repetition

About this theme

The smallest unit of a pattern that repeats regularly is called a rapport. In fabric and wallpaper design, rapports are used with matching edges to create a seamless pattern. In beading patterns, such seamless patterns (repeated in one direction) are often used in bracelets. It is important to design with the right rapport length, especially if the ends of the bracelet have a specific finish, the motifs in between should not be cut awkwardly, or if the two ends of the pattern need to meet, such as in peyote rings.

In this section, you can find repeated peyote patterns and their unit (rapport) rows. For a seamless pattern, use multiples of the number of rows shown (it is written in parentheses on the pattern cards).

I made the ring in the example with 0/11 Delica beads by repeating a 22-row unit (11 x 1.6 mm) three times. Since it was very hard to calculate using finger measurements, I designed the pattern based on the number of rows in a ring I had made earlier with the same bead type. (The millimeter differences in the calculations are important for rings, so I recommend using the same method.)
